Do Something Different
In order to create something new you have to be willing to do something you have never done.
To do something different means that despite the way you were brought up, the beliefs that were instilled in you and the experiences you had you get to choose how your life goes. You get to choose if you continue on the path you have always known OR if you create the life you want.
Awareness is the first step in creating the life you want to live. Often realizing that, creates the life you never knew that you always wanted. Awareness in how you are showing up each day, the feelings you have about your days and the things about your days you want to change. The most common way people create change in their lives is realizing what they don’t want which then causes them to realize what they do want. That is where the change starts. It all starts with awareness around what is and creates the path for what can be.
The most important learning in a childs life happens between the ages of 0 and 7. This means that the experiences we have during that time in our lives determine who we become, how we make decisions & create the lives we live. So by the time you are 7 years old you are who you are going to be. You will make decisions and respond or react to situations from your 7 year old self, even as an adult. Of course all of this is going on in your unconsious mind, and not something that you are aware of, which makes it even more important to create conscious awareness around who we are and understand why we do what we do.
With this introspection you can create change in the way you living your life. You can start making decisions and creating your reality as a conscious creator instead of a victim of circumstance. Once you are able to shift your perspective you are able to change your life.
How can you consciously create your life?
In order to truly create the life you want, you get to become aware of what made you who you are today. Start by becoming aware of the experiences that shaped who you are, then express gratitude for each experience because it got you to where you are and finally decide that you are choosing a new path to get you to where you are wanting to go in your life.
1. Become aware.
Each experience you have gone through has played a crucial role in your life. It is because of your past that you are where you are today. Of course there are positive and unpleasant experiences that were part of that creation and each one resulted in a lesson learned. What are the experiences, people, feelings & events that got you to where you are today?
Think back to those things in your life. Which had the greatest impact on you? Was it a positive impact? Was it something that made you realize who you don’t want to be or how you don’t want to live? When we know what we don’t want, we know what we do want. What lessons can you take away from each of those experiences? What lessons do you choose to pass along to future generations?
How does this make you feel? Are you willing to acknowledge things about yourself or your past that are unpleasant? It’s hard & uncomfortable at times and by acknowledging why we feel the way we feel we are able to heal from those experiences and move forward.
2. Express gratitude.
Everything in your life has made you who you are today. When we look at each experience with this perspective it changes how we look at life. Perspective is everything. Being grateful for all things in our life, experiences that are exciting and bring us joy as well as experiences that are not so pleasant, creates a sense of appreciation for all that we have been through and all that we have overcome. Each experience has shaped the person you are today.
Expressing gratitude is most often done when things go the way we want, bring us what we want or create an experience of joy. It is beneficial to expand on that and express gratitude for all of the experiences in your life no matter the outcome.
What would that look like? What doors could open by being grateful for the good and the bad in your life?
Without all the trials & tribulations, where would you be today? Would you be resiliant & strong? Would you be persistant, confident & determined?
If everything was easy in life and there was never any conflict, would you have learned how to be the independent, strong, badass you are today?
When we shift our perspective and acknowledge that the hard times actually make us stronger than the easy times, it makes us grateful when things don’t go the way we expect or hope.
And, when you are in the moment it is much harder to have this perspective so it does take practice. Is it something you are willing to do the work on?
3. Choose a new path.
We have had experiences, will continue to have experiences and we get to decide what we create from those experiences. One option is to continue to make the same decisions that we made in the past that will create the same or similar outcomes in the future – recreating the familiar past to create a predictable future. Or we can choose something different.
We can learn from our experiences, realize what we don’t want and do something different going forward to create a new future.
We create our own reality and we get to create whatever we want.
The key is to be present and aware of how you are reacting & responding to situations so that you aren’t doing the same thing that will create the same reality you are living in.
What is something you could do different in your day that would create a different experience in your life? Is it taking a different route to work? Choosing a different response to your kids? Going somewhere different for lunch? Changing up your morning routine? Going to that yoga class?
The smallest change, the slightest shift in your day can create a whole new experience and change your future.
When we realize that we get to create the life we want to live, the life of our dreams, the possibilities are endless!
Start by doing one thing different in your day and see what shifts then keep adding on to that and watch how your life transforms over time. It’s truly amazing!
